Substitute value of #x# from (2) in equation (1):

#=> 7/6 +2y = -5#

#=> 2y = -5 - 7/6# ---------------transposing

#=> 2y = -5 xx 6/6 - 7/6#

#=>2y = -30/6-7/6#

#=> 2y = -37/6#

#=> y = -37 /6 xx 1/2 = -37/12# -----------------transposing.
