Or what do you do when you bake a cake..?
Or what do you when you make beer or wine at home..?
Or what do you do when you light a gas burner?
In each case, you ARE performing chemistry...and all of these reactions are reasonably safe.
On the other hand, (and of course there is always another hand), more ambitious chemical reactions should not be performed at home.
