Explanation:

  1. Valves are either open or closed pathways to the combustion chamber at the top of the piston. When open, they allow fuel to enter or exhaust to leave the combustion chamber.

  2. Cams and camshaft control when the valves are open, when they are closed.

  3. Crankshafts convert up and down motion of the piston to rotary motion of the engine's output shaft.

  4. The exhaust manifolds collect the exhaust gasses and route them to the muffler.
