What kind of reagent limits the yield of a reaction?

...the Limiting Reagent (or the question topic); it's like saying "what describes the amount of light that is put through?" and responding "the throughput" (no, really). :)

When it runs out, the reaction can't proceed because the molecule with the primary role is no longer available.
