# Why is pH important in a complexometric titration?

Usually, in a complexometric titration, the solution is buffered to a reasonably high $p H$, so that the chelating ligand, which is probably $\text{EDTA}$, $\text{ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid}$, is present as the diacid or mono-acid. Of course, a competing equilibrium, precipitation of the metal ion as its hydroxide is also a possibility in these reactions, however, there are standard protocols to keep the metal ions in solution at a particular $p H$.
