Acid rain has a very low pH ranging between 5 and 6. It occurs due to oxides of sulphur and nitrogen or any other harmful chemicals present in polluted air that are mixed with water vapours.

Explanation:

Rain when falls through polluted air it comes across many different chemicals such as nitrogen and sulphur. These chemicals then react with water vapours. This makes the rain acidic. Acid rain has a very low pH as compared to normal water.

HARMFUL AFFECTS OF ACID RAIN: Acid rain can damage trees, it washes out the necessary necessary nutrients present in soil. It also destroys nutrients present in waters of lakes or rivers. it is very toxic for aquatic life, it kills fishes or any other organisms present in water, thus disturbing the whole ecosystem. It can also destroy buildings, statues etc.
