How many elements are metals?

Well, to a first approximation, all elements are metals.

Explanation:

Non-metallic elements, on the other hand, are less well-represented. There are the Noble Gases, and the halogens, nitrogen and phosphorus, carbon and boron, and a few semiconductors, and a few metalloids. By my count, (certainly open to argument!), there are about 22 non-metals out of a 100 or so elements.
