Explanation:

The trigonometry word is derived from the Greek words for triangle and measure. Although it initially it started with as a branch of mathematics that studies relationships between the sides and angles of triangles, it was soon extended to every straight-sided shape which could be described as a collection of triangles, whether they formed in a plane or in space, where it is used in solid geometry. Its use soon extended to astronomers.

Trigonometry has also been found to be useful in other branches of mathematics too, for complex numbers, infinite series, logarithms and calculus.
