An endoscope is used to look inside the body and examine the interior of a hollow organ or cavity of the body. Most often the term endoscopy is used to refer to an examination of the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract.
Endoscopy may be used to investigate symptoms such as nausea, vomitting, or abdominal pain.
It may be used in confirmation of a diagnosis and check for conditions such as anemia, bleeding, inflammation etc.
It may be used for giving treatment such as cauterisation of a bleeding vessel or widening a narrow esophagus.
