Inheritance is the acqusition of traits that are genetically transmitted from parents to offspring.

Explanation:

This passing of traits from parents to offsprings is brought about through reproduction which may be asexual or sexual. These heritable traits are passed from one generation to the other via DNA.

An example of inherited characteristics in humans is eye colour.
