#10^(-"pH")# is the formula for converting #"pH"# into #["H"^+]#, the hydrogen/hydronium ion concentration of a solution.

You use this to calculate the #["H"_3"O"^+]# of a solution (the molar concentration of hydronium/hydrogen ions in solution).

Remember that to find the #"pH"# from a known #["H"_3"O"^+]#, we can use the formula

#"pH" = -log["H"_3"O"^+]#

If we use the properties of logarithms, we can derive that equation from this one:

#"pH" = -log["H"_3"O"^+]#

#-"pH" = log["H"_3"O"^+]#

#10^-"pH" = ["H"_3"O"^+]#
