Is the surface area of hemisphere half of the surface area of a sphere or not?

Explanation:

Total surface area of sphere is #4pir^2#.

We can divide it into two hemispheres, with each part having curved surface area #(4pir^2)/2=2pir^2#

However in a hemisphere, we additionally have flat portion with area #pir^2# and hence total surface area of hemisphere is #3pir^2#. Due to this additional flat surface, area of hemisphere is more than half of that of a sphere. In fact it is three-fourths of surface area of a sphere.
