Trust vs. Mistrust

Explanation:

This is the first stage of development. Infants must learn trust vs. mistrust. Infants are uncertain of their world, so they need to resolve this uncertainty. Infants rely on adults for their basic needs (food, comfort, warmth, etc.)

When their basic needs are met, they become attached and develop a sense of security. This leads to hope.

When their basic needs are not met, they become mistrustful and develop a sense of insecurity. This leads to fear.
