All electric motors are magnetic. This is a result of the relationship between electricity and magnetism which is one of the fundamental forces in our universe - the Electromagnetic Force.
When ever electricity is pushed through a wire it creates a magnetic field around the wire. Whenever you have a magnetic field you have an electric field and whenever you have a electric field you have an magnetic field. They travel at right angles to one another.
This relationship allows us to create motion from electricity and vice versa create electricity from motion. A hydroelectric dam generates electricity from the motion of the water. An electric car creates motion from the current produced by a battery. In either case a spinning magnet is used to create the electricity or the motion.
