Can atoms of the same element differ in the number?

1 Answer

Isotopes of the same elements can differ in neutron number

Explanation:

An atom can have several isotopes. Isotopes have same atomic and electron number, but have a different neutron number.

For example, carbon 12
The isotopes are carbon 12,13,14.

Carbon 12 has 6 electrons, 6 protons and 6 neutrons.

Carbon 13 has 6 electrons, 6 protons and 7 neutrons

Carbon 14 has 6 electrons, 6 protons and 8 neutrons..
Good Luck :)
