Does anyone else think Socratic is just a way for some people to get their work done by someone else?

Answer:

yeah

Explanation:

I have noticed people posting question after question, fairly obviously posting an entire homework assignment. I choose to skip those questions. However, I do think that there are more people who genuinely need help, so I still answer questions that I find interesting.

Answer:

Not in general. But there are exceptions. Those are easy to spot, They're often asking for a book-length essay :)

Explanation:

Socratic is a good place. I don't let odd cases influence my judgement nor discourage me from helping students who really need it.

Answer:

In a way yes, in another way, no.

Explanation:

If you happened to read the Socratic mission, you will see that the main focus of this site is to "do what's best for students" without having a clear definition of what might that "best" be.

Hence, the notation of "teaching" is always used in here. And one method of "teaching" involves solving homework for students in a way that shows them how to solve similar homeworks in the future.

So it's true that some are using Socratic as means of getting their homework done easily for them. But "the bad actions of some does not define the whole". So I still think it's better to solve them regardless of what intention the students have behind them.

We signed up here for the sake of answering questions in a "teaching" manner. And we're sticking with this attitude till the end. And our enthusiasm might actually encourage one of the lazy students to look again at his/her education and take things seriously.

I don't know about you all, but for me, if I manage just to "save" one person, that's a life time worth of content.

I hope this answered your question.
