Most of the digestion process is completed in the small intestines.
Explanation:
The process of digestion begins in the mouth with mastication. Food passes from the mouth, through the esophagus and into the stomach before it reaches the small intestine.
Digestive enzymes from the mouth and the stomach disintegrate food into their constituent nutrients. In the small intestines more digestive components from the pancreas, liver and intestines continue the process until the nutritive elements are small enough to be absorbed.
When food enters the colon , it is possible that some food particles still need to be digested. Beneficial bacteria presen in the colon breakdown the remaining undigested matter. Water is also reabsorbed here.
