Has anyone ever observed a black hole or are they only theories?

Black holes does not emit any radiation..It is due to their strong gravity .But by studying the behavior of stars orbiting the black hole we can find them indirectly.
Explanation:
When matter falls into black hole they emit X rays from the event horizon . This can be detected by space based X ray telescopes.
