# How are electrophiles identified?

An electrophile is either a cation (positive ion) or has a partial positive charge (${\delta}^{+}$).
For example, ${\left[{\text{NO}}_{2}\right]}^{+}$ (a cation) and the (${\delta}^{+}$) carbon in a $\text{C"="O}$ bond both act as electrophiles.
