Most galaxies seem to have come into existence only once in our universe.

Explanation:

Galaxies and the first stars in the universe seem to have formed about 500 million years or so after the Big Bang. Galaxies can collide with each other and for example, astronomers believe that the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will collide in about 1 billion years. Our own Milky Way galaxy is right now "eating" or absorbing a smaller galaxy. Galaxies can also change and evolve over time too.
