How can trophic levels be deduced?
1 Answer
Tropic levels can be deduced by the energy sources used by the organisms.
Explanation:
The first tropic level organisms get energy from inorganic sources usually the sun, Carbon Dioxide and Water. These organisms are also called producers
The second tropic level organisms get energy from organic sources such as plants that are in the first tropic level. These organisms are also called first level consumers, or herbivores
The third tropic level organisms get energy from organic sources other than producers such as herbivores. these organisms are also called second level consumers or predators and carnivores ( however many organisms operated at both the second and third levels. Bears and people are examples of omnivores)
It gets complicated from here as the fourth tropic level organisms are also predators and carnivores. These fourth level organisms can get energy from from herbivores as well as carnivores that are in the third tropic level
It is necessary to carefully study all the sources of energy an organism uses to determine its tropic level.
