How can we take pictures of our galaxy if we can not get outside of it to do so?

We cannot.
Explanation:
We cannot take pictures of the milky way because we are inside it. We cannot even see the whole milky way because some portion the galaxy is hidden. The Pictures we have of the galaxy are artist representations of how the galaxy might look with all those arms and the bulge.
