How can you differentiate between the three different types of galaxies?

This is an oblique response, but there used to be a superb website called Galaxy Zoo that taught me to do it.

Explanation:

Basically they are classified on visual characteristics alone - whether or not it shows spiral structure, if a bar is apparent etc.

It can be very difficult to judge if a Galaxy is side-on, but other clues (central bulge etc.) help.
