How did brinkmanship lead to an arms race between the U.S. and the Soviet Union?

During the Cold War, neither side could use the atomic bomb because it would lead to world annihilation


Since the two superpowers during the Cold War both nuclear power, it was impossible for them to use it without endangering mankind. Therefore they led an arms race and endeavored to have as many aliies as possible.

An ideological war was also carried out between communism and capitalism. America also tried to conquer the world by spreading its culture (i.e the American Way of Life)
