Baron Von Stuben helped to train the Colonial army. The Marquis de Lafayette contributed his personal wealth and acted as an officer in the Army under George Washington.


These individuals acted on their own outside of the actions of policies of their countries of origin.

The Continental Army lacked training and discipline. This lack of training resulted in defeats on Long Island and at New York.

Baron Von Stuben was key in training the Continental army during the winter of Valley Forge and afterwards. The discipline and tactics that the Prussian officer instilled in the Continental army were critical in the Colonies achieving independence.

The Marquis de Lafayette built moral in the America troops. This French Noble encouraged the Americans that they were no alone in their fight for independence and equality of the common man.
