Glycolysis is the first step of cellular respiration and fermentation.

Explanation:

Cellular respiration and fermentation are processes that help convert the calories we eat into ATP (chemical energy.) Both processes are made up of many smaller steps. Glycolysis is the first step into both processes. If you have enough oxygen then cellular respiration occurs and you produce a lot of ATP. If you don't have enough oxygen then your body goes through fermentation and you make a lot less ATP.
