Well, look at the energy involved in a change of state....

And thus $\text{vaporization/boiling}$ is $\text{ENDOTHERMIC}$, and $\text{condensation}$ is $\text{EXOTHERMIC}$...and this may be rationalized in that the act of boiling requires that STRONG liquid-liquid bonds be broken.

On the other hand, the transition solid to liquid should be $\text{ENDOTHERMIC}$ according to the energy transfer..as should liquid to gas...
