If there is a curve y =f(x) ,f(x) is a positive function, then the area bounded by the curve and the x-axis and vertical lines x=a on the left and x=b on the right is given by

#int_a^b f(x)dx#. This area is the limit of sums called Riemann sums, the sum of the areas of infinite number of rectangles in which the region bounded as above can be subdivided.
