How do you convert 0.23 into a fraction and percent?

Move the decimal two to the right, then place that number over 100. The numerator of this fraction is the percentage.



When read out loud, 0.23 is "23 one hundredths". Mathematically:




Next, looking at the word "percent", it can be broken down into "per-" meaning "by", and "cent", meaning "100".

So a percent is simply whatever number is placed over 100. Hence,

#23/100# is really the same as 23%.
