# How do you determine if the equation y = 2(0.45)^x represents exponential growth or decay?

Not always decay: Suppose $0 < x < 1$ then as you move left to right on the x-axis you have growth. However, if $x > 1$then it decays. If $x < 0$ and you move from right to left it is decay but should we move left to right instead? In which case it is growth.
