# How do you determine the rate of dissolution?

There would be a lot of variables associated with the measurement of such a rate.

#### Explanation:

We can certainly assess the solubility of a given material in some material,

i.e. $\text{solubility"="Mass of stuff"/"Volume of SOLUTION}$.

There are lists of so-called solubility products, i.e. ${K}_{\text{sp}}$, that are extensively tabulated for given salts.

As to the rate of dissolution, the time rate of change for the reaction:

$\text{Solid solute "stackrel("solvent")rarr" Dissolved solute}$

This is dependent on a number of variables:

$\text{particle size; temperature; solute; solvent; stirring; sonication}$.

This is probably too many variables for which to account reasonably.
