#(5pi)/4 = 225^@#. Use the special triangle #45^@-45^@-90^@# triangle in quadrant three. so the sides are #-1,-1# and hypotenuse #sqrt2# . #tan ((5pi)/4)=o/a= (-1)/(-1)=1#

You can use your calculator as well but to get exact value draw a triangle in quadrant three and then find the ratio for tangent opposite over adjacent to figure out the answer. Note that the negative signs mean the direction and not the length since we cannot have negative lengths.
