# How do you find the distance between (7, 7) and (–7, 7)?

The distance is 14. You can see it on the plan: the two points are at the same height, both 7 units far from the origin. Otherwise, using the formula:
$d \left(x , y\right) = \setminus \sqrt{{\left({x}_{1} - {y}_{1}\right)}^{2} + {\left({x}_{2} - {y}_{2}\right)}^{2}}$. In your case, ${x}_{1} = {x}_{2} = y : 2 = 7$, and ${y}_{1} = - 7$. Thus, you have
$d \left(x , y\right) = \setminus \sqrt{{\left(7 + 7\right)}^{2} + {\left(7 - 7\right)}^{2}} = \setminus \sqrt{{14}^{2}} = 14$
