This is a geometric series as ratio of a term to its preceding is constant as can be seen from

$48/96=24/48=12/24=1/2$

This means that once we know a term, the next term is $1/2$ of it.

Hence next term after $12$ is $12xx1/2=6$

then we have $6xx1/2=3$

and then $3xx1/2=3/2$
