How do you find the solution to the quadratic equation #y = x² - 6x - 16#?
y = x^2 - 6x - 16 = (x - p)(x - q). I use the new AC Method to solve quadratic equations (Google , Yahoo Search)
Find 2 numbers p and q that product is (-16) and sum is (-b = 6). Compose factor pairs of (-16). Roots have different signs because a and c have different signs. Proceed: ..(-1, 16)(-2, 8). This last sum is 6 = -b.
Then the 2 real roots are: -2 and 8.
