"Proper fraction": "A Proper Fraction has a top number
less than its bottom number" ( In other words, a proper fraction is a fraction between 0 and 1.

"Improper fraction": "An Improper Fraction has a top number larger than (or equal to) the bottom number." ( Your fraction #63/16" is an example of an improper fraction.

So what do we call a number like #3 15/16#? It is a "mixed fraction": "A Mixed Fraction is a whole number and a proper fraction combined." (

I mention this since the proper terminology helps the communication and avoids misunderstadnings.
