# How do you multiply -(3x + 7) + 2?

Mar 18, 2018

When we have a negative sign in front of parenthesis like we do here, we can just assume that this is a -1.

-(3x+7) + 2...

Think of it like:

-1(3x+7) + 2.

Apply the distribution property.

-1(3x+7) + 2.

-3x - 7 + 2

Combine like terms.

-3x - 5
