How do you order the rational numbers from least to greatest: 3.8, 3.06, 3 1/6, 3 3/4?

Since they all are of the kind "3 plus something" we only look at the "plus something".

Explanation:

And then we try to find a way to compare them.
$0.8 = \frac{8}{10} = \frac{80}{100}$
$0.06 = \frac{6}{100}$
$\frac{3}{4} = \frac{75}{100}$
The only problem is $\frac{1}{6}$ because we can't express that as $100$th's, but we know that it's $= \frac{16}{96}$ which is a bit larger, but close to $\frac{16}{100}$

The differences are great enough, so the order is:
$3.06 - 3 \frac{1}{6} - 3 \frac{3}{4} - 3.8$
