Step 1: Replace the variable with the value

Step 2: Do 9- 7 because it is in the parentheses, which is a grouping symbol. 2 is left in the parentheses.

Step 3: Do the exponent- which would be equivalent to 2x2

Step 4: You are left with 2+2 (4). Now you do 2x4 because the parentheses tell you to multiply.

Step 5: You have 2+ 8 now so you just add to get to ten!
