$\frac{2 p - 24}{4 p - 48}$

$= \frac{\left(2\right) \left(p - 12\right)}{\left(4\right) \left(p - 12\right)}$

$= \frac{2}{4}$

$= \frac{1}{2}$

You can see that both numerator and denominator have their terms multiplied by a common factor, as follows:

$\frac{2 \left(p - 12\right)}{4 \left(p - 12\right)}$

As $\left(p - 12\right)$ is both in the numerator and in the denominator, we can cancel it

$\frac{2 \cancel{\left(p - 12\right)}}{4 \cancel{\left(p - 12\right)}} = \frac{2}{4} = \textcolor{g r e e n}{\frac{1}{2}}$
