# How do you simplify 6r^-1 and write it using only positive exponents?

Jan 26, 2017

To simplify this to having only positive exponents we will use these rule of exponents:

${x}^{\textcolor{red}{a}} = \frac{1}{x} ^ \textcolor{red}{- a}$ and ${a}^{\textcolor{red}{1}} = a$

$6 {r}^{-} 1 = \frac{6}{r} ^ \left(- - 1\right) = \frac{6}{r} ^ 1 = \frac{6}{r}$
