$\ln$ stands for natural logarithm i.e. to the base $e$ a real number known as Euler's number or Napier's constant, which can be written as e=Sigma_(n=0)^(n=oo)1/(n!)

In fact Napier used this to define what is known as natural log i.e. to the base $e$. In this if a number $a = {e}^{x}$ then $x = \ln a$.

Hence, as $e = {e}^{1}$, we have
