put (5y) to one side and numbers 28 and 3 on the left side and then divide the numbers onthe left side by number 5 on the right side

Explanation:

  1. First thing you want to do is put letters (y) to one side and numbers on the other side. Let´s put the number 3 to the left side and so we have to do -3 from both sides so we do NOT mess the balance
    28= 5y + 3 / -3
    28-3=5y+3-3
    25=5y

2.Now we divide the numbers onthe left side by number 5 on the right side
25=5y /:5
25:5=5y:5
5=y

  1. answer is y=5
