# How do you solve 2x + y = 12 and 3x - y = 13?

Jan 23, 2016

$x = 5$
$y = 2$

#### Explanation:

$2 x + y = 12$ ----------------------(i)
$3 x - y = 13$ -----------------------(ii)

Add (i) and (ii) we get,

$5 x = 25$

$x = \frac{25}{5}$

$x = 5$ -------------------(iii)

Substitute (iii) in equation (i)

$2 \left(5\right) + y = 12$

$10 + y = 12$

$y = 12 - 10$

$y = 2$

#Solution = ( 5,2)
