This is simply a hidden quadratic

You must realize that moving the $- 5 z$ would make a quadratic equation

So we have $2 {z}^{2} + 5 z - 3$

Now we just do the quadratic formula

$\frac{- 5 \pm \sqrt{25 - 4 \cdot 2 \cdot - 3}}{4}$

$\frac{- 5 \pm \sqrt{49}}{4}$

$\frac{- 5 \pm 7}{4}$

So we have either z = 1/2 or z = -3
