This is simply a hidden quadratic

You must realize that moving the #-5z# would make a quadratic equation

So we have #2z^2 + 5z - 3#

Now we just do the quadratic formula

#(-5 +- sqrt(25 - 4*2*-3))/4#

#(-5 +- sqrt(49)) / 4#

#(-5 +- 7 ) / 4#

So we have either z = 1/2 or z = -3
