Put the r's to one side of the equation and solve.

Explanation:

#-3r - 8 = -5r - 12#

#-3r + 5r = -12 + 8#

#2r = -4#

#r = -2#

Practice exercises:

  1. Solve for x in the following equations. Keep in fractional form when necessary.

a) 2x = -14

b) #x/3# + 9 = 22

c) 3x + 5 = -4x - 11

d) 2(3x - 6) = -(5 + x)

Good luck!
