# How do you solve 3x=13+5y and 4x-7y-17=0?

May 4, 2018

Solution: $x = 6 , y = 1$

#### Explanation:

3 x=13+5 y ; 4 x -7 y -17 =0 or

3 x- 5 y = 13 (1) ; 4 x -7 y =17 (2) Multiplying equation (1)

by $4$ and equation (2) by $3$ we get ,

12 x- 20 y = 52 (3) ; 12 x -21 y =51 (4) Subtracting equation

(4) from equation (3) we get, $y = 1$ Putting $y = 1$ in equation

(1) we get, $3 x - 5 \cdot 1 = 13 \mathmr{and} 3 x = 18 \therefore x = 6$

Solution: $x = 6 , y = 1$ [Ans]
