# How do you solve 3y – 4 = 2y – 5?

Jan 22, 2016

$3 y - 4 = 2 y - 5$

Subtract $\textcolor{p u r p \le}{2} y$ from both sides

$\implies 3 y - \textcolor{p u r p \le}{2} y - 4 = 2 y - \textcolor{p u r p \le}{2} y - 5$
$\implies y - 4 = - 5$

Add $\textcolor{b l u e}{4}$ on both sides

$\implies y - 4 + \textcolor{b l u e}{4} = - 5 + \textcolor{b l u e}{4}$

$\implies y = - 1$
