# How do you solve -5p+10+2p= -5?

Apr 22, 2015

You may do that by first grouping the like terms together,

$- 5 p + 2 p = - 10 - 5$

$\implies - 3 p = - 15$

Divide both sides by $- 3$

$\implies \frac{\cancel{- 3} p}{\cancel{- 3}} = \frac{- 15}{-} 3$

$\implies p = - \frac{15}{-} 3 = 5$

$p = 5$
