# How do you solve 5x - 2y = 3 and y = 2x?

Aug 4, 2015

The solution for the system of equations is
color(blue)(x=3,y=6

#### Explanation:

5x−2y=3........equation $\left(1\right)$

$y = \textcolor{b l u e}{2 x}$.................equation $\left(2\right)$

Solving by substitution

Substituting equation $\left(2\right)$ in equation $\left(1\right)$
5x−2y=3

5x−2 *color(blue)(2x)=3
5x−4x=3
color(blue)(x=3

Now finding the value of $y$ by substituting $x$ in equation $1$
5x−2y=3

5x−3=2y

$y = \frac{5 x - 3}{2}$

$y = \frac{15 - 3}{2}$
color(blue)(y=6
